The history of Christian Care Inc.
has it's beginnings back in 1918 when the home at 1691 Peck Street
in Muskegon was given to the Reformed and Christian Reformed Churches
of the Muskegon area by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Langeland. The original
home was built as a private residence by Sylvester Fray, a shingle
manufacturer and one-time postmaster. The purpose of this gift
was to provide a home for the elderly of the Muskegon area. This
home was added to and reconstructed over the years to provide
many years of caring shelter for a host of senior citizens as
a non-profit, church-maintained Home for the Aged. On March 1,
1993, the present residents along with new residents moved into
a new 105 bed facility at 1530 McLaughlin that carries on the
mission started in 1918.
In 1966 a basic care nursing facility
was purchased at 1275 Kenneth Street which now cares for 49 residents
as a continuum of care opportunites within the organization. This
facility is known as Christian Care Nursing Center.
